Planning A Camping Trip? What You Need To Know To Make It A Success

Camping has become a popular pastime, thanks in part to all the reality shows depicting outdoor activities. Read on to learn the right way to create a fun, safe and memorable camping trip.

When you’re camping, always look for shelter prior to dark. When night falls, making food, finding wood, and pitching your tent can be very difficult. This is even more true if you’re accustomed to city life, and your eyes haven’t adjusted to the darkness of the woods. To prevent this from happening to you, you should set up your camp immediately when you arrive.

Review your health insurance policy. Some policies will not cover you outside your own state. This is especially important if your camping destination is in Canada or another country. It is essential to be prepared in case of emergency.

A “jungle breakfast” is something that could be enjoyed when camping with children. Take smaller boxes of cereal, small cups of fruit and juice boxes away from your site and tie them up to treas. When the children awake, tell them that they have to “hunt” to get breakfast. This activity adds a bit more fun to camping.

It is better to over-pack than to under-pack, especially for kids. Camping can be very messy. Kids love getting into dirt. Your kids may become filthy as the day goes on. While there is nothing you can do about that, you can have some extra clothing just in case. Be prepared for dirty clothes and dirty children by packing extra clothes.

Dryer lint can make great kindling for creating campfires. Collect the lint in your dryer and store it in a bag a few weeks before you go camping to prepare for this. Hang up a grocery bag beside your dryer and collect the lint in it. Using this for your kindling will save you time looking for it, and it will work even better than any kindling that you do find.

With your new-found knowledge, you are now ready for that camping trip. Camping doesn’t have to be a huge ordeal, but there are things you need to prepare for. Take this advice with you and enjoy the campy road ahead.
